Subaru is a Japanese automaker known for its extensive line of all-wheel drive (AWD) vehicles.
Four SUVs are available: the subcompact Crosstrek, the compact Forester, the mid-size Outback, and the larger Ascent, which debuted last year. Both the Crosstrek and Outback have more ground clearance for more rugged terrain.
Subaru’s entry-level car is the compact Impreza, which comes as either a sedan or a hatchback.
The mid-size Legacy sedan has two engine options: a 2.5-liter four-cylinder and a more power 3.6-liter six-cylinder.
Subaru offers several higher-performance sports models as well.
The BRZ sport coupe is an affordable, rear-wheel drive performance car that is a blast to drive and looks good to boot. It is the only non-AWD car that Subaru makes.
Originally based on the Impreza, the WRX and WRX STI are a pair of high-performance compact sedans. Powering the WRX is a standard 268-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT, while the WRX STI has a 310-hp, turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder with a six-speed manual only.
